Late Rally Sinks Softball in NESCAC Championship

AMHERST, Mass. – The Bowdoin softball team fell to a late Williams rally in the NESCAC Championship on Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (31-12) took the lead in fourth inning but fell in the seventh to the Ephs (35-6), in a 5-3 final. The result marks the third NESCAC Runner-Up finish in program history.  

Game Highlights

  • The two teams retired the opposing side quickly through three innings of play. Bowdoin broke through in the fourth, scoring all three runs with two outs on the board.
  • Allison Rutz walked to put a runner on first and quickly came around to score as Natalie Edwards tripled down the leftfield line. Maddie Rouhana followed up with a two-run blast to right field.
  • Brenda Martinez answered for the Ephs with a leadoff homerun in the following inning.
  • Williams rallied for four runs in the seventh to ultimately secure the win. Jessica Kim tagged an RBI single to pull the Ephs within one. With a pair of runners on base, Lexi Curt blasted a three-run shot over the left field fence.
  • Bowdoin was unable to mount a comeback in their final at bat.

By the Numbers

  • Samantha Roy pitched 4.1 innings for the Polar Bears and allowed five hits and one run. Ruby Siltanen pitched 1.1 innings, allowing three hits. Kate Hoadley suffered the loss after surrendering four runs in the last inning.
  • Rebecca Duncan pitched a complete game for Williams and allowed just three hits with six strikeouts.
  • Rouhana paced the Polar Bears, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
