BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College Athletic Department has announced the promotion of Lara-Jane Que to head coach of the Women's Track & Field program and Peter Slovenski as the Director of Track & Field at Bowdoin.
In addition to his role as Director of Track & Field, Slovenski will continue as head coach of Men's Track & Field as well as Men's and Women's Cross Country.
"It's great news that we are adding another head coach to the Bowdoin track program," said Coach Slovenski. "Coach LJ is a wonderful match for Bowdoin's liberal arts curriculum and the way Bowdoin students strive to excel in track & field. Her intelligence and enthusiasm are going to bring wonderful leadership to the women's track program."
"I am thrilled to announce the promotion of Lara-Jane Que to the position of Head Coach of Women's Track & Field," said Ashmead White Director of Athletics Tim Ryan. "LJ has brought infectious enthusiasm, event specific expertise and an unwavering desire to support our student-athletes in all aspects of their Bowdoin experience to our track program. We are fortunate to have LJ as a member of our community and I look forward to working more closely with her going forward."
"Peter Slovenski has guided our Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field programs for 32 years, providing an exceptional athletic and learning experience for our students both on and off the track," Ryan continued. "He will continue to serve a critical role in the oversight of our Cross Country and Track & Field programs and I share his excitement for LJ as she transitions to the leadership role with our Women's Track & Field program. We are grateful for Peter's stewardship of our programs, his commitment to leveraging sport as a learning opportunity and his dedication to the core values of the Division III student-athlete experience."
Que came to Bowdoin in 2017 from Smith College, where she served as a graduate assistant for the Pioneer track & field team while earning a Master of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Studies. Prior to that she was an assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island, where she was a four-year scholarship member of the women's track & field team and was the Atlantic 10 Conference Champion in the 60 and 100-meter hurdles.
Que is a graduate of the 2018 NCAA Women Coaches Academy class #46 that was held in Denver, Colo. She is a USA Track & Field-certified Level I Coach, owns a USTFCCCA Strength & Conditioning Certification and recently received her USTFCCCA Jumps Specialist Certification.
"I am incredibly grateful and humbled to be the head Women's Track & Field Coach," said Que. "The Bowdoin community creates such a special and unique environment that fosters their student-athletes. I look forward to continuing to add to their experience as the head women's coach and assisting the men's program. I want to thank Athletic Director Tim Ryan and Director of Track & Field Peter Slovenski for this opportunity to lead in a new capacity."
Slovenski was a four-year track & field team letter-winner at Dartmouth. He was selected to the All-Ivy League team as a pole vaulter in 1977.
