BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College field hockey team has earned the second seed and will host Hamilton in the opening round of the 2019 NESCAC Championship on Saturday at Ryan Field.
The second-seeded Polar Bears will host the seventh-seeded Continentals for the second time this season with the match scheduled for noon on Saturday, November 2.
Bowdoin (14-1, 9-1 NESCAC), who has been in the NESCAC Championship field every season since 2000 and won its eighth NESCAC title in 2015, earned the No. 2 seed with an overtime win at Tufts in the final game of the regular season Wednesday night. The Polar Bears are the No. 2 seed for the first time since 2013 and will host a quarterfinal game for the first time since 2015 when they host Hamilton (8-7, 4-6 NESCAC).
Colby and Hamilton finished with identical conference records of 4-6. In head-to-head competition, Colby earned a 3-2 overtime win against Hamilton on September 28 to earn the No. 6 seed. Hamilton is in the NESCAC Championship field for the sixth straight year and is seeking its second NESCAC postseason win. Bowdoin improved to 2-0 against the Continentals in NESCAC Tournament play with a win in the 2014 quarterfinals. The Polar Bears posted a 3-2 overtime victory versus Hamilton on October 5 in Brunswick.
