Continentals Close Out Men's Hockey in 5-1 Final

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Jason Brochu scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Hamilton men's ice hockey team to a 5-1 win over Bowdoin on Saturday evening.

The Polar Bears fall to 4-8-0 (2-6-0 NESCAC) and Hamilton climbs to 9-2-1 (4-2-1 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • Hamilton scored first just 1:11 into the game. Sean Allen took a shot from the left side and rang the puck off the far post. His shot ricocheted back to Brochu for an easy put back.
  • The Continentals doubled their lead six minutes later. Rory Gagnon won a faceoff in the right circle and found Brochu who passed to Neil Conway. Conway fired a quick shot towards the left pipe for a 2-0 lead.
  • Bowdoin cut the lead in half exactly a minute later. As Hamilton looked to clear the zone, Sam Topham corralled the puck at the blue line and saucered a shot from left to top right corner.
  • Hamilton tallied a shorthanded goal two minutes into the second period. T.J Daigler took the puck from his own zone to the opposite end of the ice, earning a two-on-one, and finishing with a shot that clanked off the far left post.
  • Midway through the frame, Brochu and Conway connected for another goal. This time, Conway set up Brochu's second of the game with a centering pass from low on the right. Brochu finished off the feed with an open look at the doorstep.
  • With four skater on the ice for both teams, Allen cleared the puck out of Continental territory and behind Bowdoin's defense for Brochu to skate on to. The junior completed the hat trick with a breakaway effort at 5:44 of the third period.

By the Numbers

  • Peter Cronin made 31 stops for Bowdoin.
  • Evan Buitenhuis made eight saves in 13:25 for the Continentals before being relieved by Anthony Tirabassi who made nine stops.
  • Both teams were unsuccessful on the power play. Bowdoin went 0-for-3 and Hamilton was 0-for-7.
